Brief history

The school was established in February 1964 by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to ease the activities of women from Krofrom Market and the nearby fitting shops. It is in Dichemso, behind the Central S.D.A. Church, Kumasi. It began as a primary school and now includes K.G. 1 and K.G. 2.

  • Vision: to be among the best schools, producing scholars who are academically and morally sound and nationalistic in character.
  • Mission: to encourage pupils to create and share ideas and to excel in their God-given talents.
  • Pupils: mostly from low-income families, such as market women, street hawkers, squatters and head porters (kayayo).
  • Population: 212 pupils (109 boys, 103 girls).
  • Staff: 9 staff, 98% of them professional teachers with 10 to 28 years of experience.
  • Management: an active SMC and PTA.
  • Schedule: assembly at 7:30am, lessons at 8:00am.
  • Challenge: an infrastructure deficit; the school is making efforts to put up additional classrooms.

Stakeholders collaborating with the school

Government, Parents' Association (PA), school management (teaching and non-teaching staff), Unit Committee, Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

Classroom rules

Rule Why it matters How enforced Consequence if broken
Twi speaking is prohibited Helps pupils speak good English Posters in the classroom Writing one sentence to cover a full page
Punctuality during lessons Ensures good understanding of every topic Roll call before and after every lesson Kneeling in the sun for 2 to 3 hours
Do not talk while the teacher is in class Helps pupils pay attention Writing names of talkative pupils Kneeling in class
Do not eat in class Keeps the class clean Posters against the act Seizing the food

Things to check before submitting

  • Enrollment totals: the table adds up to 149 pupils (75 boys, 74 girls), but the history says 212 (109 boys, 103 girls). The 63-pupil gap is probably the K.G. classes, which the table doesn't list. Add a note saying so, or your tutor may query it.
  • Staff numbers: "11 other staff" and "9 staff strength" differ. Clarify whether the 11 includes non-teaching staff.
  • Punishments: kneeling in the sun for hours is a harmful practice that conflicts with GES guidance on discipline. You recorded what you observed, which is fine, but it would make a strong point for your reflections later.
  • Typos: I corrected a few in the history ("to to", spacing, "headmistress's"). The wording is otherwise yours.
