TTAG Scholarship Initiative '26: Help Is Here for Trainees Struggling With Exam Fees

A lifeline at exam time

Every semester, the same quiet worry spreads across Colleges of Education in Ghana. A trainee is fully prepared for the exams, but the fees are not settled. Some know exactly what it feels like to sit in class wondering whether they will be allowed into the examination hall.

The Teacher Trainees' Association of Ghana (TTAG), through its Welfare Committee, has announced a response: the TTAG Scholarship Initiative '26. The Boakye-led Administration says it is committed to supporting trainees facing financial challenges, and this round of applications is aimed at trainees who need help with their examination fees.

Quick facts

• What: TTAG Scholarship Initiative '26, assistance with examination fees

• Organised by: TTAG Welfare Committee

• Who it is for: Teacher trainees facing financial challenges

• Application period: 19th October to 29th October 2026

• How to apply: Through the official Google Form (get the link from your SRC)

What you need to apply

The flyer lists four requirements. Prepare all of them before you open the form.

1. An application letter. It must include your full name, college, index number, level and an active phone number.

2. A cover letter from college management confirming that you are in default of your examination fees.

3. A picture of your Student ID card.

4. Submission through the designated Google Form. TTAG advises trainees to contact their SRC for the application link.

Step 1: Write your application letter. Keep it short, honest and respectful. State your full name, college, index number, level and phone number, then explain briefly why you need support.

Step 2: Visit college management early. The cover letter confirming your default is the document most likely to take time, so ask for it first. Do not wait until the last week.

Step 3: Take a clear photo of your Student ID. Make sure the name, photo and index number are readable.

Step 4: Get the form link from your SRC. Then upload your documents and submit before the deadline.

• Check your details twice. A wrong index number or phone number can slow down or sink an otherwise good application.

• Use a phone number you answer. If the Welfare Committee needs to verify something, they will call.

• Keep your documents as clear files or photos. Blurry uploads cause avoidable delays.

• Do not wait for the last day. Forms can crash and college offices can be slow near deadlines.

• Tell a classmate. Someone you know may be struggling in silence and may not have seen the flyer.

Teacher trainees are a large community. Reporting in April 2026 put enrolment in Colleges of Education at more than 65,000 students (see Reference 2). That is a great many future teachers, and many of them study under real financial pressure.

Ghana has recognised that teacher trainees need support. Government scholarships have reached more than 5,000 trainees over seven years, according to the Registrar of Scholarships, and the government's allowance scheme also continues to play a role in supporting trainee education (see Reference 3). TTAG has also publicly defended trainee allowances as recognition of the unique bond between trainees and the state (see Reference 4).

Against that background, an initiative led by trainees for trainees is meaningful. It shows an association looking after its own members, and it gives the future classroom teacher one less thing to worry about during exams.

For SRCs and student leaders

The flyer asks trainees to contact their SRC for the application link, which puts student leaders at the centre of this process. If you are on an SRC executive:

• Make sure the Google Form link is shared promptly and widely.

• Announce the deadline on class and hall platforms.

• Support trainees who need help writing the application letter.

• Liaise with college management so cover letters are issued without unnecessary delay.
