PARLIAMENT PASSES LAWS TO CHANGE NAMES OF SELECTED PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES

Parliament has passed new legislation approving the renaming of some public universities in Ghana as part of efforts to standardise institutional identities and reflect their locations and academic focus.

Under the new laws, C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences will now be known as the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Navrongo.

Similarly, the S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies has been renamed the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies, Wa.

In addition, the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development will now operate under the name University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, Kumasi.

The name changes are expected to simplify institutional branding, enhance clarity for both local and international stakeholders, and align the universities’ identities with their geographical locations.

The laws take effect upon presidential assent, after which the affected institutions will begin the transition process, including updates to official documents, signage, and academic materials.
