Government Delegation Commiserates with Family of Late Dr. Omane Boamah

In a moment steeped in emotion and national mourning, a high-ranking government delegation has visited the family of the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah to offer heartfelt condolences and reaffirm the state’s support in their time of grief.

Led by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, the delegation arrived at the family residence in Effiduase, where they were warmly received by relatives, local chiefs, and community members who had gathered to honor the memory of the late statesman.

Among the dignitaries were Health Minister Dr. Mintah Akandoh, Presidential Aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari, and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia. Their presence was not merely ceremonial—it was a profound gesture of solidarity that transcended party lines and echoed the nation’s collective grief.

The delegation formally broke the sad news to the late minister’s mother, Madam Leticia Omane Boamah, who had not been informed earlier due to medical concerns. Following the announcement, she was gently comforted and later accompanied to Accra by Dr. Akandoh for continued care and support.

This symbolic visit highlights the deep respect the country holds for Dr. Omane Boamah and the impact he made through his work in public service and communication. Known for his articulate demeanor, medical background, and commitment to public welfare, Dr. Boamah served as Minister for Communications during President John Mahama's administration.

“Dr. Omane Boamah was not only a statesman and a communication strategist; he was a compassionate patriot who believed in a better Ghana. His legacy must inspire all of us,”

These were the words of Gyiitey James Sei (GJS), a youth leader and political commentator, in a tribute posted online. He emphasized the need for political unity and compassion, especially during such moments of national sorrow.

Social media has since become a canvas of tributes and memories, with hashtags like #OmaneBoamah, #FarewellDoctor, and #StateCondolences trending nationwide as citizens reflect on his contributions.

National Reflection

This moment serves as a reminder that beyond politics, our shared humanity binds us all. Several thought leaders have called for the creation of a National Statesmen Memorial Fund to support the families of public servants who have served with honor.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari echoed this sentiment, saying, “The country owes a debt of gratitude to its servants. What we do in their memory is a measure of our collective conscience.”

Funeral arrangements for Dr. Boamah will be announced in the coming days. An online book of condolences is available on the Ministry of Information’s official website. The public is also welcome to visit the family home in Effiduase to pay respects.
