CETAG announces indefinite strike as conditions of service remain unaddressed

The National Executive Committee (NEC), after an emergency meeting held on 19th November 2025 and in consultation with the National Council, hereby directs all members to withdraw ALL SERVICES effective Monday, 24th November 2025, until further notice.

This decision has become necessary due to the government’s persistent failure to fully implement the National Labour Commission (NLC) arbitral award of 2nd May 2023, despite continuous engagements and reminders.

Outstanding Issues:

The strike has been necessitated by government’s refusal to address the following:

1. Non-payment of All-Year-Round Work Compensation for additional duties performed in 2022 across all 39 Colleges of Education, with only partial payment made to Accra College of Education.

2. Outstanding Book and Research Allowance arrears for the 2023/2024 academic year.

3. Outstanding Book and Research Allowance arrears for the 2022/2023 academic year.

4. Outstanding Book and Research Top-Up arrears for the 2021/2022 academic year owed to Akrokerri College of Education.

5. Unlawful downgrading of experienced teaching staff holding master’s degrees, in violation of agreed conditions of service and the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).

Directive to Members:

• All members are to immediately cease teaching, supervision of students on STS, and all related academic responsibilities.

• No member should return to the lecture halls until all listed grievances have been fully resolved.

• This strike action is legitimate and lawful, constituting a justified response to government’s breach of agreements and disregard for the NLC arbitral award.

Commitment:

CETAG remains committed to delivering quality teacher education. However, we will not tolerate any form of exploitation, disrespect, or actions that undermine the welfare and professional dignity of our members.

We urge all members to remain resolute and united until our rightful demands are met.

For the avoidance of doubt, the services being withdrawn include:
Teaching, community service, STS support and supervision, project work vetting, and all related academic duties.
