The Ashanti Kingdom is in mourning following the passing of its revered Queen Mother, Nana Konadu Yiadom III. Her death was officially announced by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during a solemn Asanteman Council meeting held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Monday, August 11, 2025.

According to the official statement, Nana Konadu Yiadom III passed away peacefully at dawn on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 91. Her passing marks the end of an era in the rich history of the Ashanti Kingdom, as she served as a custodian of tradition, a unifying mother figure, and a key advisor to the Asantehene.

Born into the distinguished lineage of Ashanti royalty, Nana Konadu Yiadom III ascended to the stool of the Asantehemaa in 2017. Throughout her reign, she was widely respected for her wisdom, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the preservation of Ashanti customs and heritage. She played a pivotal role in social development, conflict resolution, and the welfare of women and children across the kingdom.

The Asantehene expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing her as “a pillar of strength and a mother to all of Asanteman.” Plans for the one-week celebration of her life have been scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025, after which full funeral arrangements will be announced.

As tradition demands, the Ashanti Kingdom will observe a period of mourning, with black and red cloths to be worn by all subjects as a sign of respect. This period will also see the performance of sacred rites, processions, and tributes in honour of the late Queen Mother.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III leaves behind an enduring legacy of leadership, unity, and cultural pride. Her memory will remain etched in the hearts of her people as a symbol of dignity and service to the Ashanti Kingdom.

May her soul rest in perfect peace.
