All CETAG salary arrears from 2023 to 2024 fully paid – GTEC Director-General

The Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, says the government has cleared all outstanding salary arrears owed to members of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana from January 2023 to December 2024.

Speaking on TV3 about the association’s latest strike,

he explained that every payment captured under the National Labour Commission’s 2023 arbitration award had been fulfilled.

He said all teaching support allowances due members had also been released following CETAG’s full migration onto the salary structure of traditional universities.

He added that the Book and Research Allowance for the 2024/2025 academic year had been settled at the same rate applied in the public universities.

Adverstisement

The only pending item, he noted, is the allowance for the 2023/2024 academic year, which both the government and GTEC are working to complete.

Professor Abdulai disclosed that the government recently released GHS 610 million to clear book and research arrears for universities and colleges of education, compared with GHS 480 million allocated the previous year.

He said the increase was a sign of sustained commitment to the tertiary sector.

He questioned the timing of CETAG’s decision to embark on a strike, saying the association should allow ongoing engagements to conclude.

He said the government had already demonstrated goodwill by clearing the major arrears that had been in contention.

CETAG has declared a new strike over the unresolved conditions of service matters, but GTEC maintains that significant portions of the concerns have already been addressed and discussions continue among relevant bodies.
